Darley Abbey

Industrial meets Victorian

The brief for this garden was to create a lower maintenance patio to replace a lawn, and fill it with colours that the client loved. A simple sandstone patio is lifted by infilled motifs made from terracotta roof tiles and the fences are painted a dark grey with corten steel trellis on each panel, giving an industrial feel. The long raised bed, built to make it easier for the client to garden, is painted a deep aubergine, and a little bug hotel with a terracotta tiled roof creates a barrier between the main patio and the working area at the back of the garden. The grey, burnt orange and purple hard landscaping is complemented by the vibrant oranges, purples and deep pinks of the planting.
