A Woodland Grove in Baslow

This was a neglected corner within a larger garden plot with views across to Chatsworth House, beset by invasive wild garlic and on a difficult slope towards the neighbour’s fence. The clients wanted to reinvent the space to create a woodland grove, with curving paths and a seating area that offered privacy from the houses beyond. We introduced timber retaining walls to manage the slope, adding a central focal point seating circle enclosed by upright oak columns. A silver birch copse rises from behind the oak, adding movement and dynamism to the space, with a mix of perennials and flowering shrubs that creates woodland tapestry to soften the gravelled pathways.
